Is Movement A Desire In Itself?
2019 | video installation | 5:30min

“Is movement a desire in itself?” is a collaborative video installation which combines different media reflecting the experience and perception of time.

There is an endless movement from the past to the present to the future. We cannot stop the world around us from moving. So is the present moment the place where movement itself takes place?

Time And Time Again
a text by Theresa Maria Forthaus | 2019

ways that cross
forward and backward
up and down
my gaze wandering from left to right, longing for space
movement

a desire in itself?

the urge for change,
for constancy yet
time

a stream of change
running into space
memory

the connection of past and future the present
now
the destination of time?

Four Quartets
an excerpt by T.S. Eliot | 1941

At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards;
at the still point, there the dance is, But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards, Neither ascent nor decline.
Except for the point,
the still point,
There would be no dance,
and there is only the dance.
