Fran
2025 | video | 3:43min
The experimental film follows FRAN as she enters an apartment where past and presence co-exist. She moves through the space not with purpose, but through physical intuition passively confronted by objects and memories.
The architecture of the apartment - a postwar modernist, heritage-listed building from 1957 in Berlin’s Hansaviertel - carries the ideals and social structures of its time. But through FRAN’s movement, this space begins to shift.
The film explores what it means to move through a structure where past, present, and future intertwine. Through subtle instinctive gestures FRAN traces the intergenerational experience of womanhood, the absurdity of remembering, and the quiet act of awakening. A process of unlearning, of peeling away inherited narratives. At its core, FRAN is about connection - between moments, bodies, and histories - and the question of what truly matters when nothing stays still.
