Meet & Move
2023 | workshop, performance, video
in collaboration with Katharina Scheidtmann
Commissioned by Kotti Island.
Every day you meet hundreds of people in your neighborhood. How often do you look someone in the eye? How often do you greet someone? What do you do when you're waiting for the subway? Do you walk differently when you listen to music?
We walk, stand still, dance and move together. In this workshop, participants got a new perspective on their everyday walks and encounters at Kotti (Kottbusser Tor, Berlin). A group movement is being created from everyday movement patterns, which in the end of the workshop was performed at the Kotti. This action was documented and later shown as an artistic video work in the context of the audiovisual exhibition Kotti Island.
Kottbusser Tor, which is affectionately known as “Kotti” by Berliners, is one of the most diverse places in the city. It is a rough place but also an authentic neighborhood. For some it is a place of transit, while others call it home. While Kotti is affected by poverty and criminalization, it also stands for community and cohesion, and attracts tourists as a “must-see” place. The people who live here have helped to shape this place through local clubs and initiatives, neighbourly exchange, and political struggles. More info about the Kotti Island project can be found here.
